How to Play

A Puzzle Appears
The board shows a chess position. It's your turn to find the best move! Look for checkmates, winning material, or tactical tricks.

Suggest Your Move in Chat
Type your move in the chat. You can use standard chess notation like "Nf3" or "knight f3" - the game understands both!

Vote Together
See what others are suggesting. The move with the most votes (or the host's choice) gets played on the board.

Correct? Keep Going!
Right move = your streak grows and difficulty increases. Some puzzles have multiple moves - solve them all!

Wrong? Lose a Life
Wrong move costs one of your 3 lives. Run out of lives and the streak ends. How far can you go?
How to Type Moves
Don't worry about perfect notation - the game understands many formats! Here's what works:

How Difficulty Works
| Rating Range | Difficulty | What to Expect |

| 1200-1600 | Intermediate | Forks, pins, discovered attacks, two-move combinations |
| 1600-2000 | Advanced | Complex tactics, sacrifices, longer combinations |
| 2000+ | Expert | Master-level puzzles, deep calculation required |
Your rating adjusts based on puzzle results. Solve hard puzzles and your rating climbs. Miss easy ones and it drops. The game always tries to find puzzles that match your current level!
Tips to Win
- Look for checks first - Checking moves limit your opponent's options. Always consider them!
- Find the forcing moves - Captures and threats that demand a response are usually the answer.
- Watch chat suggestions - Other players might see something you missed. Learn from each other!
- Take your time - There's no rush. Think through the puzzle before suggesting a move.
- Look for patterns - Many puzzles use common tactical themes: forks, pins, skewers, discovered attacks.
- Don't give up! - Even wrong answers teach you something. Every puzzle makes you better.
Common Puzzle Themes
Mate in 1/2/3
Find the checkmate! The most satisfying puzzles end with the king trapped.
Fork
Attack two pieces at once with a knight, queen, or other piece. Win material!
Pin
A piece is stuck because moving it would expose a more valuable piece behind it.
Discovered Attack
Move one piece to reveal an attack from another. Double trouble for your opponent!
Back Rank
The king is trapped on the back rank with no escape. Deliver the final blow!
Deflection
Force a defending piece away from its job, then strike at what it was protecting.
